Travel Program

CCYS Travel offers competitive soccer for those families willing to travel for games against towns that participate in the Boston Area Youth Soccer League (BAYS). All players who register on-time are accepted onto a team that matches their grade and skill level. For returning players, skill level is determined by coaches’ evaluations, and independent spring on-field evaluations. If you are new to CCYS Travel, please contact the appropriate Age Group Director.

Playing in the CCYS Travel Program involves an expectation to attend two practices per week and all games, both home and away. In practice, it is permissible for players to attend one practice in case of conflicts with other sports, and to miss the occasional game, provided that the family provides advance notice to the coaches. Before registering for this program, please be sure you and your player can make this commitment. It is not fair to teammates and coaches to sign up for a team unless a player can reliably commit to attend practices and games. Once teams are formed, they are sized based on the number of registered players, and late withdrawals or absences can have a significant impact on team balance and the experience of all players.

Registration is open through June 15th for 2026 Spring soccer. The Spring 2026 Season runs from September 12th – November 14th (10 weeks). Teams are released August 21st. Rosters can be viewed on the AdminSports Family Page.

Questions

Travel Team Evaluation & Team Formation

In order to place girls and boys on teams of the same skill level, we perform evaluations of the players who are planning to play Travel soccer in the fall of the following year.

May 2026 Eval Schedule

Travel Team Evaluation

Our goal is to help every player develop skills, build confidence, and enjoy the game. We focus on long-term player development—not short-term results.

We prioritize learning, growth, and enjoyment over wins and standings. Every player develops at their own pace. We aim to place players at the right level—where they are challenged, confident, and able to grow.

  • Movement between teams is a normal part of development. Placement reflects a player’s current stage—not their future potential.

  • Travel evaluations are not tryouts. All players who register for the Travel program will be placed on a team within their grade level. Evaluations help us determine the best developmental fit for each player.

  • 7th & 8th Grade Teams - Teams are typically combined across grades, and rosters may include both 7th and 8th graders.

How Evaluations Work

Small-Sided Games with Independent Evaluators

Evaluations are conducted primarily through small-sided games and led by independent evaluators. This ensures a fair, objective, and development-focused process.

What We Evaluate

  • Technical skills (dribbling, passing, control)

  • Tactical awareness (positioning, decision-making)

  • Effort and engagement

  • Listening skills, behavior, and coachability

Team Formation

Teams are formed through a collaborative process led by the Age Group Director, with input from coaches, the Director of Coaching, and the Travel Director.

How are teams decided?

Player placement is based on multiple data points to ensure the best possible fit. Evaluations are an important piece, but not the only factor. We also consider:

  • Coach feedback throughout the season

  • Input from CCYS professional coaches

  • Observations from games and training sessions

  • Past evaluation data

This approach allows us to make thoughtful decisions and place each player in an environment where they can grow and succeed.

What Families Should Know

  • Trust the process—placements are made thoughtfully using multiple data points

  • Avoid comparisons—players develop at different rates

  • Encourage your player—focus on effort, learning, and enjoyment

  • Be open to growth—new teammates, positions, and challenges help players improve

It isn't showing up here — it is invisible.

Possible causes and steps to troubleshoot:

  • Layer or object visibility off: Check if the element's visibility property is disabled (CSS visibility: hidden; display: none; or SVG/display settings).

  • Opacity set to 0: Verify opacity or alpha channel values are not zero.

  • Color matches background: Ensure text or object color contrasts with the background.

  • Z-order or stacking context: Look for other elements layered on top (z-index, stacking contexts, or modal overlays).

  • Positioning off-canvas: Confirm coordinates, margins, transforms, or viewport clipping aren't placing it outside the visible area.

  • Font or glyph issue: Make sure the font supports the characters shown; substitute fallback fonts if necessary.

  • Rendering or browser bug: Test in another browser or clear cache; disable extensions that might hide content.

  • Accessibility/CSS user preferences: Check for user stylesheets or high-contrast modes that could alter visibility.

  • Server-side or data issue: If content is loaded dynamically, confirm the data source
